Kassandra De Rudder – Osteopath
I had the pleasure of not only meeting Kassandra over DMs when she was researching the filum sectioning extradural surgery in Barcelona but also in person, when she traveled to Toronto for school and was fortunate to meet up with her. Kassandra who resides in BC, was also diagnosed with chiari and went through a very similar experience of not being seen or heard by our medical professionals when she was losing all functionality of her body. Kassandra who has always been very active and athletic has a background in osteopathy and knows her body well! Her symptoms such as leg weakness, head pressure, tingling in her body, cold extremities and stroke like symptoms were becoming increasingly debilitating and developed terrifying numbness in her arms, in the months before her filum surgery she was unable to even lift her phone and to type any messages via text! The pulling from the filum Terminale on the brain is a very serious issue and not studied here in North America! She and I met on one of the chiari forums and she viewed my YouTube video (thank you Chris Power for filming it)! She did her research and felt excited to travel to Europe for the filum sectioning surgery at the Barcelona chiari clinic to stop the progression of the disease and to get her life back. She is still very early in the healing process but was well enough to travel to Toronto all on her own and to participate in a demanding two week osteopathy course! All of this would have been impossible prior to the filum surgery. I’m so incredibly thankful to have connected with Kassandra and to be able to share our stories in a safe and supportive space, being seen and heard and nurtured is part of our healing and together we are committed to helping and supporting others with the goal of hopefully bringing change to the system that didn’t feel our symptoms were at all a problem. Super thankful to be able to spend time in the very busy Kensington Market area of the city with so much light, sounds, activity, our brains were able to handle all the stimulation, thankful to the @institutchiaribarcelona for our life saving and changing filum sectioning surgery.
